Basic & Intermediate Equivalent Courses (EFA & SFA) Only (November 2024 Update)
EFA & SFA Certifications are equivalent to Basic First Aid (EFA) or Intermediate First Aid (SFA).

Your role as an Occupational First Aid Attendant:
- You have an obligation to provide first aid at their workplace under the WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
- You MUST promptly provide injured workers with a level of care within the scope of your training.
- You MUST record observed or reported signs and symptoms of injuries and exposure to contaminants (covered in OH&S regulation).
- You MUST refer an injured worker to medical treatment, if the injury is serious or beyond your scope of training.
- You are responsible and have full authority for all first aid treatment of an injured worker, until responsibility of treatment is taken over by: place of medical treatment (clinic); EMS; person with higher or equivalent first aid certification.
- You cannot overrule a worker’s decision to seek medical treatment.
Employer’s responsibilities:
- Workplace minimum requirements.
- Maintenance of stock & equipment.
- Training & availability of helpers.
- Safety Data Sheet (SDS) & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) available.
- Ordering of supplies.
First Aid Records:
- Employers must maintain at the workplace, a form acceptable to the regulator. It must record all injuries and exposures to contaminants covered by OH&S regulation that are reported or treated.
- Must be kept for 3 years, and are kept confidential and may not be disclosed except as permitted by this Regulation (or permitted by law).
- Must be available for inspection by an officer.
- Workers may request access to their first aid records for any treatment or report about themselves.
